GlacialTech UFO V51 cpu cooler is not an ordinary cooler, its futuristic design is inspired by ufos. It has 2 silent 92mm fans in push-pull array that move the air towards the motherboard in order to assist cooling and other components like NB,mosfets and memory. It also features a combination of two 6mm heatpipes with two of 8mm diameter, in order to achieve better heat conduction. And of course it is covered by very nice plastic parts and has definately a unique design!

GlacialTech UFO V51 is available in two versions, Silent and PWM.Today we will have a look at the Silent version.

Let's have a look at the features and specifications!

Data is taken from GlacialTech website.

Now let's see the packaging!

Packaging from the front is designed in such a way to give the effect that the V51 cooler is an Ufo and it is above the earth. We can also notice that UFO V51 Silent is compatible with Lga 1366(Intel i7 cpus).

From the back we can see the features and specifications of UFO V51, and also a list of the supported cpus.

Let's have a closer look at GlacialTech UFO V51 Silent!

From the top we can see the upper 92mm fan, and also the plastic frame with the GlacialTech logo.

From the side we can see the heatpipes, the two 6mm diameter are the ones at the outer sides. The other are bigger, 8mm diameter.

From the other side we can see the ends of the heatpipes.

The aluminium fins can be seen from the other side

We can see the top 92mm, 1600rpm fan.

Here we can see the bottom fan, it is interesting that it has inverted fins and it is not simply a fan positioned upside.

The base has fins at the top to increase performance.

From another point of view, we can see how the heatpipes are placed, and also the fins at the top of the base.

The base has preapplied thermal paste and is protected by a piece of plastic

Because almost everyone is using his own favourite thermal paste(my personal favourite is Noctua NT-H1), I remover the preapplied paste and checked the base.It has a mirror finish and is completely flat! One of the best polished bases I have seen!

The plastic cover can be removed in order to reveal the aluminium fins and the two 92mm fans.

Fins have a wavy shape in order to reduce air noise

It is interesting that if we remove the plactic covers we can place two 120mm fans with some tie wraps!Perfect for those who want even more performance.

Let's move to the installation!

First of all we have to mount the correct clips, Lga 775 for this board.

Then we place UFO V51 in top of the processor, and secure the clip with the two screws and the provided allen key.

From another point of view, we can see that if we place it like this we cannot use tall memory modules at the first dimm, but it can be easilly fixed by rotating the UFO V51by 90 degrees.

Now we can move on to the testing!

In order to provide as accurate as possible testing results I am using synthetic testing instead of placing the cooler into a system.Temperatures are measured from the inside of a copper plate that simulates the cpu heatspeader with a high sensitivity thermometer.

More specifically testing is done by using thermal loads of 50/100/150/200 watts to simulate thermal loads produced by processors. These loads typically simulate:

  • Idle:50w
  • Load:100/150w
  • Overclocking:200w

For comparisson I have used Intel Stock cooler and Nexus HOC-9000.

Let's have a look at the results!

GlacialTech UFO V51 Silent performed very well, and surpassed Nexus HOC-9000.This was not expected, since coolers with very attractive designs often do not perform so well, but GlacialTech proved the opposite. That nice look and performance can be combined!

Acoustical noise was at very low levels, the two silent 92mm fans really do their job perfectly.

Also the wide compatibility range makes  GlacialTech UFO V51 Silent ideal for a lot of people.

GlacialTech entered the high-end cooling solutions game with UFO V51 cooler, it does not only look nice, but also performs great. And with a price starting at ~40 Euros at Europe and $50 at USA it should be in your shortlist if ou are planing to buy a new cpu cooler!

Pros

  • Nice futuristic look
  • High quaity
  • Low noise
  • High performance
  • Rich bundle
  • Wide compatibility range
  • Design cools down and other components

Cons

  • None

GlacialTech UFO V51 silent cpu cooler is given the "Design award" for its futuristic design, and the "Editors choice" award for being able to combine both nice appearance and high performance at a nice price!
